Hello and thank you for reading the SEO tips and tricks blog, which has been designed to help individuals such as yourself understand the deceivingly complicated (it’s really not that difficult) world of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Having learned most of what I know about SEO from the internet, I realize it can be extraordinarily difficult to find a single, comprehensive, step-by-step source for reliable SEO Tips and Tricks. So, here you have it.
I’ll start from the extreme basics of SEO and progress through the development of an imaginary website. If you’re designing your site, all you’ll have to do is follow this step-by-step blog to achieve respectable search engine rankings.
What are search engine rankings you ask?
Search engine ranking are the order of listings that appear after you have searched for a keyword or keyword phrase in a search engine’s (Google, Yahoo!, Ask, etc.) search window. After clicking the Search button, you are presented with a list of websites offering answers to your query.
Example:
If you type ‘cars’ (the keyword) in Google’s search window then click enter, you will be presented with links (underlined, clickable items that take you to a new web page) to the sites that offer relevent results for your query. In this instance, www.cars.com is the top listing. Therefore, it can be said that it has the #1 listing on Google’s search engine results page (SERP).
To put SEO simply, that’s its entire purpose – to get your site to that #1 search position (for keywords and keyword phrases (multiple word search entries) that are relevant to your site). Search engine optimization, therefore, does just that – it ‘optimizes’ your website to perform well on search engines, notably Google, which commands a large portion of the Search Engine marketplace.
Why is position #1 so important?
Many individuals don’t understand the relevance of of a #1 position. I’ll put it simply. Approximately 40% of ALL keyword searchers visit the first listing on a SERP. The second listing receives approximately12%, the third8-10%, and so on and so forth.
Example:
1000 people search for a specific keyword on Google each day
Site #2 receives approximately 120 visitors from that specific keyword search each day
Site #1 receives approximately 400 visitors from the same keyword search each day
At the end of five days, site #2 has had roughly 600 visitors, site #1 has had 2000…You get the picture. The first position is the holy grail of search engine optimization, and for good reason.
